A Letter from Khaulat

I was You 3 Years Ago

Who am I? I feel like I’m living multiple lives at once and it’s exhausting. I was an entrepreneur, do I want to continue on that path? I don’t like what all the VCs and investors are indirectly forcing me to build. I just want to help and connect people.
‍
I’m researching AI and the future of work and I wonder if this is a future I want to live in. All the companies are optimizing for productivity and profit but no one’s doing anything about the job losses and the many more to come.

It’s ironic whenever I tell people that the only way they can succeed in the ‘future’ is to become a robot by keeping up with everything, learning and adapting instantly with no break. If you take a break, you lose. All for what?

Oh! I could continue into a PhD because I love research but who will apply it? I could get a big tech job, I could continue making AI courses, I could start a proper ‘tech startup’.

Where does my faith come in? I’m becoming more conscious of Allah every passing second and I feel like I have to hide my identity because of everything happening in the world. I want to speak up about all the injustice across the globe but I’m scared.

They could arrest me or kill me. I think I need a huge following and lots of savings before I can speak up.
‍
Yaaa Rabbi! Help me!

About Founder

Khaulat Abdulhakeem is a Career Design Strategist and Stanford M.S. graduate who spent 4+ years as a career coach before realizing the real solution wasn't better jobs, it was designing different lives. She has previously been an AI Researcher and Educator to 50,000+ students. As a Muslim woman who was sandwiched between rediscovering her identity and researching the future of work in Silicon Valley, the heart of most world-changing innovations, she saw first hand how the world runs and what the ‘people at the top’ prioritize. In a desperate attempt to find out where she fits in all of this, she spent a huge part of her graduate studies researching purpose, career fulfilment and the future of work from an Islamic lens. This led to the creation of the Fitrah Career Redesign framework which is the foundation of her work.

“...my first session felt like hitting the jackpot. It was part therapy, part career strategy, and, most importantly, rooted in my deen.”
When I first reached out to Khaulat, I honestly had no intention of paying for an additional service. I simply needed an outlet to voice my frustrations and confusion about my career. But my first session felt like hitting the jackpot. It was part therapy, part career strategy, and, most importantly, rooted in my deen. I found someone who genuinely listened and helped me make sense of the questions I had been carrying. Our three transition calls became a journey back to my core purpose. I was challenged to ask, “What are my whys?” and, more importantly, how I could pursue them in a way that aligns with my purpose as a servant of Allah. Two months later, I am grateful for the changes that have stayed with me, especially the structure I have created around my mornings and my time with the Qur’an. Khaulat also helped me map out a possible career path that aligns with my deen, my goals, and my desire to make an impact. One thing I know for sure is that I was not created to simply “hang by.” I was created with purpose, to serve my Lord and to be a vessel of impact for women. I came looking for a space to vent about my career. I left with clarity, direction, and a renewed sense of purpose. And I genuinely cannot wait to bring the ideas we explored together to life.

“I was hoping to be surprised and Alhamdulillah I got what I was hoping for. It was an answer to one of my duas so I really appreciate it.”
I didn’t really know what to expect. There were some parts that I recognized because I did some Ikigai work but I was wondering how I was going to implement it. The gap between vision and execution has always been where I got lost in the past because I always over-analyze the details, but the last session on transition roadmap design definitely brought it all together. As overwhelming as the activities might seem from outside, I’m excited to dive in, discover and connect them all. I surprised myself. I was hoping to be surprised and Alhamdulillah I got what I was hoping for. It was an answer to one of my duas so I really appreciate it.

“Alhamdulillah I'm halfway through the program and I am more confident in the direction my career is headed.”
Before joining the Fitrah Career Residency I was eagerly seeking more clarity on how to approach my career moving forward. I work for a big tech firm but something has always felt missing. Alhamdulillah I'm halfway through the program and I am more confident in the direction my career is headed. One thing that stood out to me before joining was incorporating and centering this journey around Islam and Allah and figuring out how to uphold what is priority with the goals and dreams I have. I've thoroughly enjoyed every moment with Khaulat the past few weeks and I look forward to where this journey takes me.
